The Trip
The West Coast trip explores the remarkable diversity of Iceland, capturing
the highlights of the land of fire and ice. Hikes offer the opportunity
to view huge ice caps, endless lava fields, and fjords. Walks along the
coast allow a feel for the immensity of the ocean and its inhabitants—sea
birds, seals porpoise— We will discover waterfalls, moors, green
meadows, colorful farms, and little fishing villages.
The trip begins in Reykjavik then continues to the western
peninsula of Snaefellsnes situated at the foot of the Snaefellsjokull
volcano. From Snaefullsnes we travel by boat to the island of Flatey for
sea bird watching, but will also keep a look out for seals and porpoises.
As we arrive at Latrabjarg, the most western point of Europe, we'll see
enormous seabird cliffs, which some consider the largest in the world.
In Deildahver, we visit hotsprings and in Kaldidalur we walk along the
mountain trail, near the Langjokull icecap. Our trip ends at Thingvallavatn
Lake in the Thingvellir National Park. We arrive back in Reykjavik in
the late afternoon on day seven.
