Since 1988 Distant Journeys has been leading adventure travel trips for all levels of alpine hikers and walkers. We offer easy hotel-based trips, more demanding hut-to-hut trips and self-guided trips. All offer excellent ways to explore some beautiful areas by walking, hiking and trekking. Our hiking and walking areas include:Iceland, Norway, several regions in France, Switzerland, Italy and England.Our overseas trips are perfect for active singles or couples who enjoy adventure travel.

Our hut-to-hut hikes offer those looking for more demanding hikes a wonderful way to explore hidden areas. We travel by foot to a new location each night staying in hotels, small inns or mountain lodges also known as refuges or huts. These "hut hikes" include the Tour du Mont Blanc, Tour Monte Rosa, the Dolomites, the Grand Traverse of the French Alps, the Haute Route, the Berner Oberland, Norway, and Iceland.

Our "inn-to-inn" hikes include England Coast-to-Coast, and Provence and offer comfortable hotel lodging each night.

On our hotel-based trips we visit one or two different areas, stay in very comfortable hotels and enjoy wonderful easy-to-moderate day hikes in the surrounding areas. These trips include several locations in Iceland, the Berner Oberland in Switzerland, the Dordogne region in France and the Dolomites in Italy.

From mid June to mid September we also offer self-guided trips. Self-guided hut hikes include the Dolomites, the Haute Route, the Berner Oberland, Grand Traverse and the Tour du Mont Blanc.

We also offer self-guided hotel-based hikes in Switzerland. We use several different mountain villages in Switzerland and design the trip which will suit you.

In the winter we head to Austria and offer a week-long cross-country ski trip to the Tyrol in Leutasch, Austria. A week of ski touring in this winter paradise is great for all levels of skiers; both classic cross-country skiing and skating skiing on over 125 miles of beautifully groomed trails.

As owners and guides we have been hiking in these areas for over 22 years. We personally know the routes, we know the huts and hotels and not only do we know the people who run and own them, many are good friends. We have been offering many of our standard classic hikes as long as or longer than most fellow companies. Weíve chosen to stay small so that we can stay in touch with our client base, continue to guide the routes we love and have time to develop new trips to destinations that intrigue us.

We have a small cadre of longtime office staff and field guides, who are dedicated to working with you to choose the trip that is right for you, providing you with the service you will need to make your pre-trip planning go smoothly, and who will assure your hike is safe, enjoyable and rewarding.
